Apologies for absence

Minutes:

Apologies for absence were received from Councillors Caluori, Champion, Convery, Fletcher, Parker, Gallagher, Gantly, Greening, Kaseki, Parker, O’Sullivan, Smith, Wayne and Webbe.  

2.

Presentation of the Freedom of the Borough

Councillor Richard Watts seconded by Councillor Janet Burgess will move the motion as follows:

That, by virtue of the power vested in it by Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972, the Council does admit the Officers and Firefighters of Islington and Holloway Fire Stations, London Fire Brigade and John and Darren Walters, the Pearly King and Prince of Finsbury,
as Freepersons of the London Borough of Islington.

Minutes:

Councillor Watts moved the motion. Councillor Burgess seconded.

 

Councillors Jeapes, Nicholls and Russell spoke in support of the motion.

 

The Mayor put the motion to the vote and it was carried unanimously.

 

The Roll of Honorary Freepersons was signed by Gary Squires, Borough Commander of the London Fire Brigade, and John and Darren Walters, the Pearly King and Prince of Finsbury.

 

The Mayor presented framed Freedom Scrolls, verifying the admission of the Officers and Firefighters of Islington and Holloway Fire Stations, London Fire Brigade and John and Darren Walters, the Pearly King and Prince of Finsbury, as Freepersons. Gary and John addressed the Council and expressed their thanks for the award of the honour.

 

RESOLVED:

That, by virtue of the power vested in it by Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972, the Council does admit the Officers and Firefighters of Islington and Holloway Fire Stations, London Fire Brigade and John and Darren Walters, the Pearly King and Prince of Finsbury, as Freepersons of the London Borough of Islington.

The Ben Kinsella Award 2018

To present the Ben Kinsella Award 2018 to:

            Artur Ahmati

Minutes:

Following an introduction by George Kinsella, Sharon Goldman, Manager of the Children’s Active Involvement Service, spoke in support of her nomination of Artur Ahmati.

 

The Mayor, George Kinsella and Ramzy Alwakeel, Editor of the Islington Gazette, presented the Ben Kinsella Award to Artur Ahmati.

Civic Awards 2018

To present Civic Awards to the following people:


            Linda Brown

            Kathy Green  

            Rosey Lyall

Following speeches by the nominators, the Mayor and Ramzy Alwakeel presented Civic Awards to Linda Brown, Kathy Green and Rosey Lyall.
