Reviewing services provided to local people
This Committee
scrutinises the planning, provision and operation of health
services in Islington and looks at the performance of local health
providers. It carries out reviews of the council's policies,
performance and procedures and can also look at how external
organisations, such as local GP practices, provide services to
local people. It has the right to make recommendations on matters
which affect the health and wellbeing of Islington residents and
carries out the functions of an overview and scrutiny committee in
respect of matters relating to the Public Health Directorate or to
Adult Social Services. It also fulfils the Council’s
statutory requirement to scrutinise health matters other than the power
to make referrals to the secretary of state which can only be
referred via a recommendation to full Council.
Members of the Health and Wellbeing Board should
not be appointed to this committee.
