Council Constitution

Islington's constitution sets out how the council operates, how decisions are made and the procedures which are followed to ensure that these are efficient, transparent and accountable to local people. The law requires some of these processes, while others are a matter for the council to choose. The constitution is divided into the following sections:

The council recognises that good governance is essential for good management, performance and stewardship of public money and has developed a Local Code of Corporate Governance to implement this vision. The Local Code of Corporate Governance is available in Part 6 of the Constitution above.
